She worked as waitress at An American Place in New York City for a full year. The culinary journey of Guarnaschelli began when she watched her mother cook a range of dishes at home while editing cookbooks. She began her professional career under Larry Forgione before working in numerous restaurants such as Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot. Guarnaschelli was eventually the chef in charge at Butter. Guarnaschelli competed on Food Network's Iron Chef America in 2007. The contestant was Cat Cora at the Farmers Market Battle of 2007 and won. In 2011, she was a contestant as the season's third runner to the winner of The Next Iron Chef, and has been on the panel for the show from the beginning. Additionally, she participated on an episode of the Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast and was a loser. In the fourth season she was Geoffrey Zakarian's sous chef.
